# Working with your agent

What to ask your agent day to day, how it decides which wiki to use, what it does on its own, and how to keep the wiki tidy.

You work with the wiki by asking your agent in plain words. The plugin gives the agent the wiki tools and a set of skills that tell it how to write pages, record decisions and pick visuals, and the agent follows your wiki's own writing guide on top of those.

## Things to ask

| To | Ask |
| --- | --- |
| Start a wiki | "Set up a wiki for this project." |
| Research and write a page | "Research the top five competitors and add a page for each." |
| Add a visual | "Add a 2x2 of our options by cost and impact to the Strategy page." |
| Track a set of things | "Track our customers in the wiki: segment, size and owner for each." |
| Record decisions | "Capture what we decided." |
| Look something up | "What does the wiki say about pricing?" |
| Read it | "Open the wiki in my browser." |
| Check it | "Check the wiki for broken links and stale pages." |
| Share it | "Move this wiki to a team." |

## Your writing guide

Setup adds a page called **How we write this wiki**. The agent reads it, and the Home page, before it writes, and the guide wins wherever it disagrees with the plugin's defaults. Edit it to change what belongs in your wiki, how pages are written, and which visual the agent uses for each need.

## Which wiki the agent uses

The agent decides once per session:

1. If you name one ("the team wiki", "the local wiki"), it uses that.
2. If the local wiki was moved to a team, it uses the team wiki and says so.
3. If the project has a local wiki, it uses it. If the project is also connected to a team wiki, it asks which one.
4. If the project is connected to a team wiki, it uses that.
5. Otherwise it offers once to start a local wiki: private, checked in, or not now.

It never writes the same thing to both.

## What happens on its own

- **At the start of a session** (Claude Code), the agent is told what the wiki covers and which pages cover files you have changed.
- **Before design work** or a larger change in an area, the agent checks what the wiki already says.
- **At the end of a session** with a commit, a plan or several file edits (Claude Code), the agent is reminded once to capture what you decided.

Codex and other agents do not run these hooks, so ask for each step yourself.

## Edits land directly

The agent's edits apply to the files right away, with no review step. It keeps each edit small, does not delete or rewrite what a person wrote without asking, and ends its reply with the pages it changed. Deleted pages go to the wiki's trash and can be restored. If your wiki is checked in, git shows you every change.

## Keep it tidy

After a large rework, ask the agent to check the wiki. The check changes nothing; it reports:

- broken links
- orphan pages that nothing links to
- stale pages whose code changed since the page did
- pages with duplicate titles
- pages whose `paths` match no file

The agent then fixes what it can and tells you the rest.

## One wiki across every agent

Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP agents all read and write the same files, so you can switch agents without losing what any of them wrote. See [Install](/docs/getting-started/install/#other-agents) for agents other than Claude Code and Codex.
